Course Description
The course has opportunities for computer assisted learning, information technology training, data analysis, and the use of web-based resources; there is significant weight attached to student-centred research activity; archival training and research methodology is a core component of year 2 provision, culminating in a final year dissertation that allows individual interests and acquired skills to come together in the production of a unique piece of historical research.
Year 1 offers a new start for all; material and themes that may not have been studied before are offered through thematic modules on Britain and Europe from AD1000 to the present day; and world history from the 18 to 20th centuries. In the 2nd year, students can start to specialise, or continue with broad-based study; specialisation may be through studying a particular period (e.g. Early Modern period) or looking at a specific perspective (e.g. international or gender history). In the 3rd year students complete a dissertation and study more specialised modules on the themes they have chosen.
