The course places an emphasis on pharmaceutical and medicinal aspects of chemistry, enabling students to gain employment in the pharmaceutical sector; modules contain significant amounts of practical work and directed assignments relevant to employers; a paid, year-long placement year is optional.Year 1: Core chemistry modules cover: inorganic; organic; physical; analytical; and radiochemistry; together with essential practical skills; language modules are provided; information technology and mathematics taken to an appropriate level; there are many optional modules.Year 2: Additonal chemistry modules including aspects of organometallic chemistry and industrial chemistry; analytical chemistry is a feature of this year, to prepare students for their year in industry.Year 3: 1st 1/2 allows specialisation in advanced organic and pharmaceutical and medicinal science; 2nd 1/2 comprises independent study and research project in an appropriate area of pharmaceutical/medicinal science.
