Formerly part of the University of Wales, Bangor University was founded in 1884, and then became independent in 2007. Although the university is primarily located in Bangor, certain departments are located in nearby Wrexham. Major investment is currently taking place to provide more student accommodation and its expanding academically too.
There is a range of accommodation including catered and en suite options. Prices start from £66 and go up to £104 a week.
Bangor has six libraries, and each library was situated within close proximity for the departments it caters for. There are also nine computer rooms which are open 24 hours a day.
Maeglas is the University's main sports centre. It provides facilities for both students and the general public. Facilities include two sports halls, weights training room, climbing wall and squash courts.
Most of the campus is within walking distance of each other. Bangor is on the main rail line between London and Holyhead. There are also good road links to the motorway.
The Students' Union has its own 1000-capacity nightclub and the Octagon Nightclub which is only a five minute walk from the main student union. Familiar pubs for the students are Wetherspoons, Yates, Patrick's Bar and Rascals Bar.
Bangor have over 10,000 students, 26 academic schools and over 600 teaching staff and a £20m redevelopment of the campus is currently taking place.
