The University of Derby was created in 1992 out of the Derbyshire College of Higher Education. The University is very popular for further education courses with nearly 10,000 students taking this route. Derby is a thriving city with loads going on, and it's the safest city in the East Midlands. The campus is on the outskirts of the city, and all the halls of residence are between the campus and the city centre, so you'll be living within easy walking distance of both.
Accommodation is guaranteed for first-years and prices range from £73 to £91.25 a week.
Facilities are great and the libraries offer extensive resource materials. A £21m arts, design and technology site was opened in November 2007.
Kedleston Road has a sports hall, gym, running track, and football pitches. Tennis courts and an all-weather sports pitch were opened in spring 2009.
A frequent bus service runs between the Derby sites and into the city centre. The M1 is only 10 minutes away.
In terms of nightlife there is pretty much something to suit everyone’s needs. There is a variety of pubs and bars such as Revolution, Yates, Wetherspoons and a variety of student pubs. For students who fancy some retail therapy, there is the new Westfield Centre which has a variety of shops and eateries. Derby also offers plenty of restaurants and little cafes.
The University of Derby has spent over £75 million on new facilities in the last few years and is working to provide their students with the best experience. The university welcomes from all backgrounds.
