| PGCE stands for Postgraduate Certificate in Education and mainly focuses on developing your teaching skills. It is a one-year full time course aimed at graduates wishing to teach in Primary or Secondary Schools. |
Most PGCE programmes will include at least 90 days work based in schools. This would be spread across the three terms and the teaching placements are usually near where your university is situated. The remaining time will be spent at university where you will have to attend lectures, seminars and practical workshops. Candidates who wish to apply for the PGCE will have to demonstrate that they have gained recent experience in a school dealing with children of the relevant age. Most universities prefer if you can show you have had 10 days work experience at a school. |
Unlike a PGCE in Secondary, a PGCE in primary teaching purely prepares you for teaching children from the age for 4 to 11 years old and focuses on the different aspects and subjects that they may deal with. Qualifications
