The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is a one year Secondary course which prepares graduates to teach in Secondary Schools. It will then lead to Qualified Teach Status which is needed if you want to teach.
The typical course structure would involve around 24 weeks of placements in secondary schools within a reasonable distance of your home. This is so that you will gain knowledge and different teaching experience within different schools.

At university you will spend your remaining time learning about the theory and practice of teaching and involve yourself in lectures, seminars and workshops.

Secondary school teaching is often very demanding but very rewarding as you are teaching an age group (11-18 years) where the pupils are maturing into adulthood.
