Civil Engineering is considered to be the oldest engineering field, and focuses on creating, improving and protecting the environment in which we live in. This could be infrastructure including roads, airports, railways, buildings, bridges, landfills and tunnels. It is quite obvious to say that mostly everything that civil engineers do affects our daily lives in many ways therefore without them our planet wouldn’t survive.

Civil engineering courses typically take three to five years to complete and the degree course structure usually covers topics dealing with physics, mathematics, project management and design.

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate:
Usually three A-Levels. Mathematics is essential.

Postgraduate: normally a minimum of a Lower Second Class Honours degree in a related engineering discipline.

PhD: a minimum of an Upper Second Class Honours Degree or equivalent, in a related science or engineering discipline

There is no typical career path for civil engineers however; civil engineers are in huge demand.
