A-Level Results Day 2015: Still not sure what to do 7 days on?

If your A-Levels results missed the mark and you’re still not sure what you’re going to do a week on, there’s no need to panic – there are lots of things that you can do to make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunities you deserve. Here are just a few of them…

The good news is that Clearing is still open – and in fact it will be until 21st September, the final deadline for 2015 applications. The vacancy search will close later, on 30th September.

You’ve got to act now, though, because it’s true that the best places at the top universities will go fast. So get proactive, this week – or better still, this afternoon. Check the Clearing search tool on UCAS, phone universities, check what courses they still have spaces for, run by your grades by them to see if an offer of a place is realistic, and then get yourself there to make sure the course and the university is right for you. You’ve got nothing – nothing – to lose.

Take a year out

There’s no reason, if you’ve got your heart set on a particular course at a particular university, why you can’t hold off on your plans and go next year instead. A year out means you could resit an exam to boost your grades, go travelling, find yourself a job to save money – or a mixture of all three.

Studies have proven that students who take gap years before university start the following year refreshed, matured and motivated – and there’s no reason why this unexpected diversion can’t mean the same for you too.

Just speak to the university before, especially if they made you a conditional offer before your results came in, and let them know your plans.

Consider studying abroad

You might not have thought about it, but missing out on your expected grades for your chosen UK university could actually end up being the start of a brand new and completely unexpected adventure.

So, have you considered studying overseas? If so, there are lots of universities that are crying out for talented to UK students to fill the last spaces on their courses this autumn. To find out more, sign up to our sister site studyoverseas.com, and you could end up with the choice of universities in multiple countries by the time September rolls around. What could be more exciting than that…?
