Fashion Retail Academy
About Us

The Fashion Retail Academy delivers a unique contemporary educational experience, with a range of vocational and work-orientated courses to successfully prepare learners, aged 16+ for employment in the fashion retail sector.  We offer full-time courses, short courses and apprenticeships.

The FRA is genuinely employer led, and was the first National Skills Academy to be opened in the UK in September 2006.  An initial government-matched investment from the Arcadia Group, Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Next and Experian has been followed by practical support from other retailers.  We are now working with over 110 retail companies who provide meaningful work placements, master classes, and resources to aid teaching and equip FRA students for working life.

Located in a fantastic building just off London’s Oxford Street you will learn in an inspirational environment with the latest facilities including, Lecture Theatre, IT suites and our very own Fashion Academy Boutique mock shop.  Lecturers at the FRA have diverse retail experience, offering a wealth of knowledge about the industry.

The FRA is a private training provider which offers free government funded places on full-time Further Education courses for students under 19 years of age.  The FRA has proved a resounding success growing from 50 to over 720 full-time students in 6 years.

To inspire and prepare learners for a working life in the fashion retail industry”
FRA Mission Statement

What makes the FRA so unique?

We ensure that our course offer is current and of value to employers by assessing workplace demand and continually consulting with the industry.  A large proportion of FRA students go straight into jobs with real career prospects, despite the depressed economic climate and competition for university graduates.

Beyond delivery of qualifications, we ensure our students are exposed to the fashion retail industry to show how their studies relate to the workplace and the High Street.  Students learn about a variety of retail settings from large national multiples, bricks and mortar stores and omni-channel operations.  We provide work placements on some courses with partner companies and/or work-based projects, trips and visits, a unique series of master classes delivered by industry experts, as well as an annual Careers Fair with recruiting retailers.

“The combination of great classroom teaching and highly effective integration with retail partners makes the FRA unique.  Students are exposed to a raft of opportunities across many different facets of retailing, and their energy and enthusiasm is impressive.  They are a credit to the FRA and a great addition of young talent to the industry, a fact borne out by the high percentage of leaving students who go on to secure jobs”.
Sir Philip Green – Founder of the FRA
