During your degree it is likely that you will take a year out of your course to take a paid internship for 12 months at an engineering company. This provides you with the chance to put what you’ve learned in your degree into practice, to learn from experienced professionals and work in a real company. Engineering is a diverse discipline spanning aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical and nautical – everything from the electronics in a submarine to the metal used in a suspension bridge. Because of this it is important to research engineering companies to make sure you study a discipline you wish to work in when you graduate.
