Finding Accomodation
There is often a shortage of student accommodation in the UK so be sure to start looking as soon as you are accepted into a university. There are a few types of accommodation available but it is generally recommended to live somewhere owned by the university.

You will be asked if you want the university to provide you with accommodation when you are offered a place. Make sure that you read all the information they send to you carefully, follow application procedures and watch out for the deadline when your application has to arrive by.

Private Accomodation
If you decide to take private accommodation the internet (for example GumTree.com in London), local newspapers and housing agencies will all have properties advertised. When you have found somewhere to live, read the contract carefully before you sign it and get receipts for all payments made.

Council Tax
Your University will provide you with a council Tax Exemption Certificate which provides exemption for students from Council Tax. A certificate is provided to all full-time students at the beginning of their programme of study at the University. Please note that if you repeat less than four units during an academic year you will be classed as a part-time student and you will not be exempt from paying Council Tax for that year.
