Clearing

Each year thousands of students don’t get the right grades to attend their chosen university or college. However, if you don’t get the results you wanted fear not, this isn’t the end of the road…

Contact your University
Firstly, you MUST contact the admissions department at the university or college of your choice, no matter what your grades are. You should do this as soon as possible to either confirm and accept your place, if you have received the right grades, or to see if you will still be considered on the grades you have.

Whether you are accepted with lower grades will depend entirely on the admissions tutor, how many people didn’t get their grades, how many places are available etc. So there still may be a chance so MAKE THAT CALL!

If you are not accepted then try your other university or college choices. Hopefully one of these will accept you. If not, then consider the following options:

Clearing
Each year over 330,000 students are placed at a university or college through clearing. You can see what courses are available through the UCAS site at: www.ucas.ac.uk or through national newspaper listings such as The Times or The Independent. Clearing starts mid-August and lasts through to late September. However, places do go extremely fast. So make sure you start looking the moment you get your results.

Re-sits
For many students getting on the right course at the right university plays a key part in their future. Therefore, re-sits are available for those who feel they could do better next time. Whilst this may seem a convenient route, re-sits should only be considered as a last resort and only by students who are willing to put the study commitment in.
