Freshers’ Week usually begins the week before the official term starts and 2nd and 3rd year students arrive back. The week is designed to slowly introduce students to their new environment through a week of introductions and entertainment.
Fresher Introductions
Freshers week will involve a series of official and unofficial introductions. When you arrive you will receive a timetable for the week outlining the activities you will be expected to attend from course enrolment through to meeting the president of your union. You will also get to meet the pople you live with through halls introcutions for those of you lucky enough to live on-campus and also you shall be properly introduced to the people on your course.
Freshers Tick List
During Freshsers Week you will get to sort out any loose ends. This could include sorting out your NUS Card, findng your on-campus bank, registering with the on-campus doctors through to discovering where the canteen common room and laundrette is.
Students Union
The students union will probably become your second home during your first year at university. During freshers wek your NUS is here to help you with any problems that you may have so don’t be afraod to go and see them.
Freshers Party
Most importantly Freshers Week is seen as the party week oif the year. So good is its reputation that som 2nd and 3rd year students attenbd freshers week to soak up the atmosphere and check out the new talen. There is an expression that play in Freshers Week stays in Freshers Week. So,m think before you get dragged into any situations that coud cause you embarrassment further down the line.,
In additon to the cheap beer at the Union Bar the NUS will also provide the entertainment during Freshers week from club and comedy nights to pub quiz’s etc. There should bbe something for everyone so come dowen to the bar and make some friends as everyone is in the same boat and looking foir a good time.
Freshers Fair
The Freshers fair is a great way to pick up seconbd hand study books and also join any clubs and societies that share your interests. Whilst this is a great way to mnake new friendstry not to over commit yourself to too many clubs to avoid disppointment.
You may also be able to pick up some great offers during the freshers fair from contents insurance through to essential products you may require. However, do be warend that the Freshers fair is now ssen as a feeding ground for company’a with studsent products who plan to entice freshers with bulging bank accounts with fresher offers. So, before you sign on the dotted line utter those immportal student words “Do I really need this?”
